Acute arteriomesenteric duodenal ileus as a complication following operative correction of scoliosis.
(Lillehei et al., 1967). This is attributed to the vasodilator and positive inotropic action of such large doses of hydrocortisone. Similar therapy was successful in our patient. Recent reports recommend that a rapidly acting thyroid hormone should be promptly administered to patients in myxoedema coma or pre-coma. The danger, particularly to the cardio-vascular system, must be balanced against...
متن کاملFixation anomaly at duodenojejunal junction.
Congenital duodenal obstruction commonly occurs due to malrotation, atresia, stenosis and annular pancreas in decreasing order of frequency. Besides this, duodenal obstruction may occur due to high fixation of duodenojejunal junction or due to hyperfixation bands at duodenojejunal flexure(l-5). We are presenting three cases in which duodenal obstruction occurred in the presence of normally rota...
متن کاملMesenteric-Based Surgery Exploits Gastrointestinal, Peritoneal, Mesenteric and Fascial Continuity from Duodenojejunal Flexure to the Anorectal Junction--A Review.
INTRODUCTION It is now well established that mesenteric-based colorectal surgery is associated with superior outcomes. Recent anatomic observations have demonstrated that the mesenteric organ is contiguous from the duodenojejunal to the anorectal junction. This led to similar observations in relation to associated peritoneum and fascia. The aim of this review was to demonstrate the relevance of...
متن کاملFlexure of cranial sutures.
Beam samples containing cranial sutures were prepared from embalmed and unembalmed cranial bone and were tested to determine their flexural stiffness and strength. With the aid of layered beam theory, the flexural stiffnesses of beams containing cranial sutures were compared to hypothetical layered cranial bone beams which did not contain sutures. The bending stiffnesses and strengths of crania...
متن کاملPrimary splenic flexure volvulus
Primary splenic flexure volvulus is a rare entity. We report an acute presentation of primary splenic flexure volvulus with gangrene in a 24-year-old man. Radiograph showed a massively-dilated large bowel loop with a coffee-bean sign. At emergency laparotomy, a distended and gangrenous splenic flexure was found, with absence of all three ligamentous attachments of the splenic flexure.
